There are two basic kinds of crossovers: Active is cleaner, easier to configure, and costs much more due to the cost of the electronic crossover and the multiple amps necessary. It will usually play much louder with a given amount of total amp power you use more, smaller amps.
Passive takes a bit more expertise to tune well, but for the average car setup, it just isn’t that critical.

Jun 16, · Recently i hooked up a friends amp that was a mono block with 2 inputs for speaker wires (2 + and 2-) he had 2 4 ohm DVC subs.I followed the 12 volt subwoofer wiring diagram that said to hook the 2 subs up together in parallel to get a 1 ohm load.
It only has RCA inputs. My TV is a Samsung 60″ with digital optical audio out only. It does do PCM output, and I have it set to that output. Speakers are Polk Monitor 7’s. I installed the Samsung TV into a bookcase, and the sound was terrible due to rear firing speakers, I assume. I have trouble hearing it, even with the volume at max.

Older systems usually lack RCA jacks, but just because you have an older system does not mean you cannot add an amp for additional power to push your speakers or subwoofers. Before you begin the installation process, it’s imperative that you make sure the amp you’ve chosen is capable of accepting speaker or line-level connections. Once you’ve double-checked these things, you’re ready to start.
You can mount it on the back of a seat, on the sidewall, on the back of your subwoofer box or on the floor of the trunk away from any loose items that may damage the amp by shifting when the car moves. Disconnect the negative terminal of your car’s battery for safety purposes. Open the amp wiring kit, which contains all the wiring you’ll need to hook-up your amp.
You will need to connect the lengthy, red wire to the positive terminal of the battery. This red power wire should be thicker than your speaker wire–typically 8-gauge works fine. Run the positive wire back towards the cabin of the car, avoiding sources of heat and areas that are likely to be splashed by water when driving in inclement weather.
Here are a few general tips to keep in mind as you plan your speaker installation. Types of installations After you identify your vehicle on our Vehicle Selector and select the mounting location, you’ll see which speakers fit your car. Speakers labelled “E-Z” will fit in the factory speaker openings and use the factory grilles and brackets. The magnet fits the available space and the tweeters won’t interfere with your grilles.
Other sizes — labelled “P” — fit with the aid of a mounting bracket free with speaker purchase , or with minor modifications such as drilling new screw holes, cutting a small area of metal or pressboard, or filing cardboard or plastic to make room for a speaker that is larger than the factory opening.

View My Garage jtrosky Wanted to give an update on this Kicker amp So I exchanged the amp and the replacement was exactly the same. However, after having the amp installed and using for a few weeks, I’ve come to the conclusion that while it does have a higher “noise floor” than the Alpine KTP U, it turned out to be a non-issue in real lfe. You can only hear the “noise floor” noise if you’re looking for it – and only if the car is not running and you are in a really quite place like a garage with no other noise which was the case when I initially connected the amp.
But again, the noise floor really turned out to be a non-issue in real-world usage. Honestly, I think it’s a case of the Alpine I had being better than everyone else in this aspect – not that the Kicker is bad – it’s just “normal” whereas the Alpine is top-notch in this aspect. I still have the Kicker amp installed and I’m still evaluating it. While I liked the way that the time-alignment made the vocals sound like they were coming out of the windshield, I’m not sure I liked how much it lowers the output level of the rear speakers.
I’ve always been the type that likes the sound faded to the rear channels slightly and with time-alignment, it seems that you lose a lot of sound that would normally come from the rear speakers – which decreases the overall “power” of the system since the rear channels are a lot quieter than they are without time alignment. It’s like you’re “wasting” a lot of amp power

Amp in Protect Mode – Troubleshooting Foreword: I get so many questions about amplifiers going into protection or blowing fuses after remote turn-on voltage is applied that I’ve decided to provide a page to help determine if the amplifier is faulty or if a fault in the system is causing a problem. Many amplifiers will illuminate their protect LED during the mute delay when you initially power up the amplifier.
After a short delay seconds , the protect LED will go off. For those amplifiers this is normal. If you know how your amplifier behaves when the amp is in good working order, it will make troubleshooting much easier. If you are unsure about this, you can email me or ask someone on a forum where they’re familiar with the amplifier you have.
For the most part, this page is for amplifiers that go into protect mode and remain in protect mode or go into protect mode when the amplifier is driven hard. Many times, the protection indicator will blink to indicate the reason the amp is in protect mode.
